It can be difficult to dress yourself when you’re short. Even at my end of the petite spectrum, skirts that would normally hit above the knee go down to my shins. >:C Not very appealing!!
During the past few months, in my quest to dress work appropriate for a smaller frame, I’ve actually learned a lot about dressing myself so I don’t look like some frumpy, homeless, art school loser. Hurray!!
Here, I am wearing the Houndstooth Jacquard Pencil Skirt from American Apparel. For years, I’ve actually been quite wary of AA since most of their clothes were very short (even for my short ass) and very stretchy. Given that I do have some displaced childhood fantasies of being an Olympic gymnast and/or figure skater, skimpy and stretchy aren’t exactly my thing.
LO AND BEHOLD. In recent years, AA has been coming out with more structured items. The Houndstooth skirt particularly is quite warm, given that it is unlined, and has a nice weight to it. Definitely not cheap and flimsy. Its got an awesome sheen but still work appropriate in the Sand Taupe color. It hits just a bit lower than mid-thigh, so no fear of looking like a hoochie librarian.
I also got the Pleated Skirt (in Merlot…like the Shawn Thornton line. See how everything in my life ties together? Skirts and Hockey…impossible?? I SAY NAY). The skirt is unlined but it seems to hold its shape well and has great weight that I won’t be too hesitant to wear it in New England winters.
This will probably be one of the few entries I have on fashion. Or else I will be tempted to blog about every single cupcake backpack and Bruins swag I see.
